If the top brace were on it would of faired much better. The idea was that the weight point loaded on the internal structure, the pyramid - strong as an ox- and that the outer wings would balance the weight, and help the exterior uprights stay plumb, allowing good weight transfer instead of snapping. With nothing to stop it racking outwards, it was a pancake.
The system is only as strong as the connection. If the top brace were on i think the tape would of failed first, as their was only a friction connection on the spaghetti. It wasnt consolidated at all.
